Bing Russell’s loose cannons.

With Kurt Russell playing in their inaugural 1973 season, the Portland Mavericks have a long history as the Hollywood Rebels of baseball.

Mavericks first owner, Bing Russell, believed in giving dreamers a chance. He made open tryouts a tradition, hired the first professional female and first Asian-American baseball General Managers, and made “no team rules” a Mavericks motto that stands to this day.

The only independent baseball team at the time, the Mavericks soon became infamous, setting attendance records and giving baseball a run for its money. The team’s first run was only 5 years, they were pushed out by the baseball establishment in 1977.

In 2021 the Portland Mavericks were resurrected for the first time in almost 50 years.

Now the Mavericks are bringing all their wildcard energy back to the field in full force and will stop at nothing to win the 2025 season.
